With a truly Midlands upbringing, Eliot regularly visited and stayed in the Peak District. In fact, many of her novels were written while visiting the area ("Silas Marner"was written in a picturesque cottage in Wirksworth, Derbyshire). Not only that, the Midlands proved to be a regular inspiration to her when writing her novels
