The Sound of Thunder SavannahMaasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. The rains bring life to the African plains and woodlands, allowing the elephants to move far out into the landscape and feast on the ripe grasses and acacia seedlings. Storms like this create a dramatic backdrop to the grasslands, thus dwarfing these gentle giants. Rain is always a blessing in Africa. We followed her intermittently throughout her sixteen years of life and last saw her in early 2012 at the place we call Leopard Gorge

as well as Lake Natron in Tanzania
