'William Hall's Wee Chest 1893', Scottish Folk Art Pine Chest Books - Poetry*RESERVED* A delightful late 19th century Scottish folk art pine chest of 'wee' proportions. The chest has a central brass plaque reading, 'William Hall's Wee Chest 1893'. A brass Celtic style cross is nailed to each corner, and the lid opens to reveal a miniature candle box to the interior, the whole raised upon four feet. There are signs of wear commensurate with age throughout but all joints and brass elements remain firmly affixed, and the wood

in fact some clients will not buy his work unless it contains the genuine “Ixer bucket”

some very light crazing in places and three small patches of foxing to the mirror (please see photographs)

with a mother of pearl top escutcheon and key escutcheon and a professionally relined interior

The devil is concealed from above by a bird mask lid which reveals the devil beneath when lifted

The gilt frame shows wear but arguably adds character to the painting giving the appearance of a window frame through which one is viewing the scene

The toast rack has some light scratches throughout commensurate with age and there is some tarnish to the inside corners (please see photographs)

The brooch is stamped '14K' with a symbol which is likely a maker's mark

All pages are clean and bright

The hinged lid lifts and clicks shut with ease
